Letterboxing in 2012

Apologies to all who may have visited the letterboxing webpages over the last few months and found that there has been relatively little news. Our New Year's Resolution is to attend to various letterboxing matters as soon as possible, some of which we have highlighted below.

Firstly, the website has gone though somewhat of a transition recently, but this is now being smoothed out so that in the future the douglasexplorers.net domain will be exclusively dedicated to letterboxing, as the Scouts have moved their pages elsewhere.

Secondly, we are aware that a number of letterboxes are either missing or in need of attention/replacement. We have drawn up a 'hit list' and are aiming to have visited every box on this list by mid-March. We will keep you posted on our progress with announcements on this news page and also by logging visits at each letterbox, which can be viewed in the main letterbox database.

Thirdly, we are hoping to produce a new edition of the Letterbox Book, which contains a list of all the letterboxes on the Island and the clues detailing where they may be found. There are some additional letterboxes to be added into the new book, as well as amendments to some of the clues. The current edition of the book contains some errors in relation to grid squares and compass bearings. The clues for the boxes at Sloc Shielings (Heather Hills) and Greeba Mountain (10 Peaks) will be amended for the new edition of the book. The Witches Box at Slieu Whallian has a new clue not currently featured in the book. We are very grateful to those people who have pointed out these mistakes, and would be further grateful if you are able to notify us of any other errors you may have spotted.

We hope to have the new edition of the book available in the summer of 2012. More news will be posted here nearer the time.

As ever if you have any queries or comments, please do get in touch using the 'Contact Us' tab at the top of the screen.

Many thanks
The Letterbox Team
