Douglas Explorer Scout Unit Annual Report 2004 |
![]() |
2004 has seen many changes within the unit. The unit has seen members leave and other members join, this may be due to the fact that the explorer unit has been very busy with a variety of activities but has provided new and interesting insight into the units operation and further incentive to participate in many of the Islands Events. All of the activities undertaken within the unit have been organised by the members themselves.
| By far our most extensive activity was the Michigan 2004 Camporee in the USA. This involved two and a half weeks in Michigan in both home-stay with American Scouting families and a week under canvas at Northwood's Reserve on the Camporee itself. A comprehensive log of the Camporee is available by Clicking Here. |

Apart from the main event in our units calendar we have undertaken a variety of other seasonal events all memorable in different ways. I don't think that anybody in attendance of this years Firework display will ever forget it! Unfortunately photographs of the Firework Display are not available but a number of other activities are covered in the Events section. This section is available by Clicking Here.
| The Explorer Unit has also taken on the responsibility of renovating the 1st Douglas Group Bunkhouse. This project will involve an extensive involvement from the unit in repairing almost every aspect of the building. The bunkhouse project (as we call it) has its own section devoted to it on the site. You can learn more about the project by Clicking Here. |

In Easter 2004 we also dispatched 4 Members of the Explorer Unit to Dartmoor for a 5 Day back-Packing expedition. The team also included Mike Southall the Assistant Island Commissioner for Explorers who led the party for the duration of the expedition. The trip was a real eye opener to our newest member of the unit who really enjoyed the experience.
| 2005 promises to be an even more successful than this year with more activities and opportunities opened to our members. If you are aged between 14 and 18 and would like an opportunity to participate in such activities please email the Unit Leader to request further information. |
